March29- Guangzhou Ballet Mission came to GDUFS on March 27th and performed "Return on a Snowy Night". Once students learned that it was going to be playing in the GDUFS Yunshan Hall, it did not take long for all the seats to sell out.
The ballet, "Return on a Snowy Night" is adapted from the drama produced by the famous dramatist Wu Zuguang.It is a beautiful love story in a traditional setting. There was no dialogue during the show and as it combined Chinese elements with ballet, it was able to capture the essence of the traditional world in a very dramatic manner.
The clothing and props were a mixture between Chinese and Western flavors.
The colorful clothing and the variety of props brought to life special ethnic customs. As well, the toe dancing simply amazed the audience.
Breaking the tradition, the ballet was combined with cheongsam. The doll dance was the climax of the ballet and it expressed the helplessness and sorrow of Yu Chun, the leading character.
Yu Chun and Lian Sheng fell in love at first sight and their romance developed further at dinner. Their dance during the date expresses aspiration and helplessness.
Immersed in romantic music, Yu Chun was aroused by love and her elegant movements touched the audience.
Since the servant Lan Er's betrayal, the lovers were separated and the tragic scene brought the story to climax. In the blurred lamp light, Yu Chun and Lian Sheng met again but only in their imaginations. .
Using happiness to set off sadness was the most outstanding feature of the ballet. Happy scenes such as cheerful music are contrast the sadness of the lovers.
When the ballet came to an end, everyone clapping for the wonderful performance. The audience thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it the play left a little touch of romance and meaning in students lives.
