Recently, Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Science and Technology organized an acceptance test in Changsha County, Hunan Province to evaluate the effect of the technology developed under the research project Synchronous Precision Rice Hill-drop Drilling Technology .
After close examination and comparison, the specialists agreed that the technology, allowing different procedures of ditching, ridging, hill-seeding, and fertilizing to take place synchronously, was cost-and-fertilizer-saving and conducive to higher yield, therefore, could be widely promoted. The project is undertaken by the National Hybrid Rice Research and DevelopmentCenter and SCAU and sponsored by the Guangdong Bureau of Science and Technology.
Academician Yuan Longping, member of the ChineseAcademy of Engineering and also known as Father of hybrid rice , showed strong interest in the project. He came in person to the experiment base to examine the growth of rice, and affirmed the positive effect of the technology. He expressed the hope that further cooperation between the National Hybrid Rice Research and DevelopmentCenter and SCAU would be strengthened.
Vice-president of SCAU, prof. Chen Zhiqiang invited Academician Yuan to attend the centenary celebration of SCAU, and Yuan accepted with pleasure.
