Traditionally, Chinese Muslims celebrated the tradition of Corban on Nov 16 and 17. Muslim students in USTC organized an evening party on Wednesday together with several ethnic groups, such as Hui, Uygur, Kazak etc. Mr. Zhou Xianyi, the deputy president, with Mr. Yang Dingwu, the director of service, and Mr. Dong Yu, the director of student's affairs, came together to celebrate with Muslim students in the party.
Zhou said that more attention was paid to the minority students in USTC, and he hoped those students had a better development in our university. Some Muslim student representatives also expressed their thanks and best wishes for friendship between different ethnics.
Party participants included some department directors, Muslim undergraduates, masters, doctors, as well as some teachers and graduates who came here for further study from Xinjiang University. Students danced happily after dinner.
The Corban Festival, also known as Id al-Gurban, is one of the three most important Islamic holidays that is meant to demonstrate believers' faith and obedience to Allah. Ten ethnic groups in China, including Hui, Uygur, Kazak, Uzbek, Tajikistan, Tatar, Kirgiz, Sarah, Dongxiang and Bao'an, celebrate the annual festival.
There are 104 Muslim students in USTC. Corban Festival is celebrated every year in USTC since 2002.
