A Delegation Headed by Chairman Liu Jianping Visited Brazil and Argentina

From March 15 to 27, 2007, a delegation from Tianjin University headed by Professor LIU Jianping, chairman of University Administrative Council, visited Brazil and Argentina as a part of 21 Century Chinese Higher Education Delegation to South America, which include over 130 representatives from 57 universities in China.

The delegation joined the 21 Century Chinese Higher Education Exhibition in Brazil and Argentina, and Chairman LIU Jianping gave a key note speech about the achievement and reform of Chinese Higher Education on behalf of Chinese universities at the University Presidents Forum in Brazil. In his talk, he also mentioned the history of Chinese Higher Education, and particularly the history of Tianjin University, the first institution of higher learning in China.

During the exhibitions in Brazil and Argentina, the booths of Tianjin University attracted a lot of attention from students of both countries. The delegation also visited major universities in the two countries, the University of Sao Paulo, PUC Rio, the University of Buenos Aires, and so on. This visit was the first major exchange activity in the higher education sector between Chinese and South American higher educational institutions.

It will greatly promote the understanding and friendship between the peoples, and particularly the exchange and cooperation between students and faculty on both sides in the time to come. Professor GU Yao, Deputy Dean of Graduate School, and Professor YANG Fuling, deputy Director of International Cooperation Office also joined the visit.
