Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi will conduct the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) Concert Hall Orchestra Sunday and Monday evenings at the NCPA and will also perform on the piano.
Best known for his work with Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki, Hisaishi has produced music for nine films directed by Miyazaki, including Spirited Away, Kiki's Delivery Service and Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea with some of the work part of the concert.
He will also include compositions he wrote for the soundtrack of award-winning film Departures (2008).
Hisaishi has handpicked seven pieces from his latest album Minima Rhythm to be performed in which he incorporated classical, post minimal and postmodern styles.
Born in 1950, Hisaishi has contributed significantly to modern music. In 2007 he wrote the scores for Chinese films The Postmodern Life of My Aunt and The Sun Also Rises.
