A retrospective exhibition of Lin Gang and Pang Tao is currently on display since June 5, 2010 until June 14 at Hall 1, 4, 6, 8 and 9. a total of more than 280 works showcase remarkable achievements of the two artists in the past six decades, some of which are on debut. The couple artists will donate their masterpiece in different periods to the country, which will be kept in the National Art Museum of China.
Lin Gang and Pang Tao are among the first generation of artists receiving higher education in the art. the exhibition is expected to reflect the tight relation between the revolution and the journey of the artists.
Lin Gang is among the first group of state-funded painters sent to the former Soviet Union. The six -year overseas study contributed to his solid painting skills and his individual oil painting language. Back to the motherland, he has been devoted to the style emotional realism and brought vigor and vitality to the creation of revolution realism. Born in a family of artists, Pang Tao was influenced by her parents Pang Xunqin and Qiu Ti who were pioneers of the modern Chinese art in the 1930s. She showed great talent in the art since childhood and insisted on the freedom of the creation. With unique female concern to the life, Pang Tao adopts fluent strokes and bright colors to present the refreshing atmosphere of the nature and the colorful appeal of the minorities.
Since the reform and opening up in the 1980s, the couple artist opened a new chapter in the creation to a wider vision from the realism to the expressionism and the abstractionism. As an outstanding female artist, Pang Tao showed her concerns and feelings about the 911 event of the United States and the suffering compatriots in the Wenchuan earthquake with her unique and sensitive attention to the society and life in the abstract art form.
The exhibition intends to not only explore the common of the artistic journey of the couple and but also reflect their respective artistic styles.
As senior professors of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, the couple artists have made a contribution to the artistic education and trained a large number of influential Chinese contemporary artists. The exhibition will also first release two volumes of Pang Tao paintings in which the attachment of the first volume - "children learn painting without teaching" is recommended to be read by art-loving parents.
No matter when they lived in chaos or peace, the couple artists have been always maintaining the love for the life and the sincerity and confidence for the art.
Organized by the National Art Museum of China and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, a seminar on the exhibition was held at the National Art Museum of China on June 8.
