June 12, 2010 marks the fifth Chinese Cultural Heritage Day. The National Art Museum of China has contribute the () to the important day in a bid to encourage the awareness of protecting and inheriting the intangible cultural heritage and enforcing the recognition of the culture. This show is prepared for the Cultural Heritage Day following a series of exhibition held at the National Art Museum of China, including Shadow play- Treasure collection from NAMOC , Beauty in the folk- Folk paper cuts and embroidery collection from NAMOC and Ancient appeal- Facial mask and puppet collection from NAMOC .
The exhibition comprises a loan of 481 pieces of shadow play collections in 47 groups. The exhibition is hoped to help the visitors have a better understanding of the history and the culture of the shadow play through showcasing such materials as volumes and musical instruments and the culture of the shadow play troupe. Meanwhile, relevant video clips are provided and Xiangdong troupe from Changli, Hebei will be invited to perform during the exhibition so that the audience can appreciate the original form and the local custom of the shadow play art.
The exhibition will be on display at Hall 2 and 3 from June 7 to July 3 and at Hall 8 from June 17 to June 23. the shadow play art performance will be launched at Hall 8 from June 16 to June 18.
