For most art enthusiasts, the chance to view original works from Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Michelangelo is but a dream. For those in Beijing, the dream is now a reality with an exhibition of Italian Renaissance opening Sunday afternoon.

Underway until late January, the show is being held at China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) Art Museum, with an array of fine art from 15th and 16th century Italy on display.

A total of 121 pieces of rare work, including sketches, sculptures and prints, have been meticulously selected from the Louvre Museum in Paris and are on show for the first time in China, according to Herve Barbaret, administrator general at the Louvre.

Several pieces have never been shown out of the Louvre, explained exhibition curator Catherine Loisel, who is also chief curator of prints and drawings at the Louvre.

Highlights of the exhibition include original sketches and prints from Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael, which are sure to spellbind art lovers and give novices a hint of the essence of the mysterious but innovative Italian Renaissance.
