Pianist Sun Yingdi prefers to keep his work and private life separate.

By Jiang Yuxia

Talking to 30-year-old pianist Sun Yingdi was quite an enjoyable experience and one can easily feel his sincerity during conversation. After 27 years of studying and playing the piano, he knows the art of interpretation and being a professional performer. Well-read and having cultivated a profound interest in China's classical literature, he knows the precise words with which to expound on his understanding of composer Franz Liszt and the role music plays in his life.

Wearing black-framed glasses, with the corners of the mouth tilted up while emitting a somewhat boyish smile, Sun possesses a relaxing and natural mien that puts you at ease. Yet when he is on stage, he instantly becomes passionate, robust and powerful.
