Beijing Poly Auction House opened an exhibition entitled Masterpieces of Rhinoceros Horn and Ivory Carvings at the Poly Art Museum on Monday.
The exhibit includes about 60 pieces of carved artwork, all on loan from private UK collection house A&J Speelman, along with about 40 other antiques. According to organizers, the carvings represent the craftsmanship and creativity of Chinese decorative works of art from the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911).
Speelman's Asian collections embrace a wide range of antiques, including Chinese, Japanese, Himalayan, Indian and Southeast Asian art, with a focus on eclecticism, diversity, rarity and quality.
According to organizers, the collection is dedicated to the memory of Alfred Speelman, who, along with his son Jules Speelman, founded A&J Speelman in 1976.
The exhibit will run until April 18.
