The Kuwait Cultural Week in Beijing, part of the celebrations to mark 40 years of the diplomatic ties between the State of Kuwait and the People's Republic of China, has seen a collective display of Kuwaiti culture and history, including traditional songs, dances, and handicrafts with a series of exhibitions and live performances.

The cultural week, jointly held by the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Beijing and China's Ministry of Culture, started on Tuesday and finishes today. Taking place at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Beijing Foreign Studies University and Beijing University, the week has seen popular Kuwaiti artists, including popular singer Fatoomah, The Kuwaiti Television Band and fine artist Ebrahim Habeeb, perform for a Chinese audience.

"I'm happy that through this event Chinese people can get to know more about Kuwait's modern history, art and folk arts," said Kuwaiti Ambassador to China Mohammad Al-Thuwaikh at the NCPA opening ceremony Friday.

Kuwait people are proud of their culture and history and would like to deepen ties with China via cultural exchanges, the ambassador added.

The two countries have reached a peak in their cooperation in political, economic and other fields since the March 22, 1971 agreement, according to the ambassador.

Over the past 40 years, China and Kuwait has seen a steady progress in bilateral ties, including cooperation and exchanges in the cultural field, said Gao Shuxun, Chinese Assistant Minister of Culture, at the opening ceremony.
