A locally produced ballet based on the Pacific's tradition and legends will be staged in Fijian capital Suva from Thursday night, local newspaper reported.

The three-day ballet show, named Ta'aroa Pacific Ballet of Creation, will be staged at the Civic Centre Auditorium in Suva, The Fiji Sun reported Thursday on its website.

The show merges western and Pacific styles of art, but its main message is based on ancient Polynesia mythologies through drama, music and dances, according to The Fiji Sun.

The show is expected to be a hit especially among youths. It was adapted, directed and produced by Allan Alo, the choreographer/ artistic director of the University of South Pacific's Dance Department.

"Although the production adapts western ideas, it serves as a reminder that while we are going through globalization, we must ensure to protect our identity and our tradition," Alo said.

"This is what the production is about. It is about creation in another effective way of preserving the culture of the Pacific," added the director.
