The 110th anniversary of the birth of architect and city preservationist Liang Sicheng, was celebrated in Beijing's Tsinghua University on Wednesday.
The book Chinese Architecture: Art and Artifacts, a collection of Liang's research articles on China's ancient architecture, was also released during the event.
Born in 1901, Liang was a pioneer in historical research and exploration in Chinese architecture and a leader in the restoration and preservation of ancient monuments in China.
Recognized as the "Father of Modern Chinese Architecture," Liang is the author of the book A History of Chinese Architecture and served as the Chinese representative in the Design Board, which counts among its accomplishments designing the United Nations' headquarters in New York.
Liang's second wife Lin Zhu, the editor of the new publication, said, "Many of the articles in the book are written in English, which can help Western readers cultivate a deeper understanding of the ancient Chinese architecture.
"Liang believed that cultural exchange between different countries can greatly contribute to the development of a national culture," Lin added.
The book is a reflection of Liang's remarkable academic insights, said Wu Hao, a publisher of the book.
Liang has a deep love for Chinese architecture, and he has spent his life introducing the beauty and glory of Chinese architecture to the whole world, Wu said.
