The Sri Lanka tourism industry appeals to the government to defer the implementation of the new rule to charge for visas.
Members of Sri Lanka tourism industry deem that charging visas would deter tourists to visit the country. Anura Lokuhetti, president, Tourist Hotels Association of Sri Lanka (THASL), was quoted as having said that one of the reasons why Sri Lanka attract a large number of visitors is because of the easy access to the country, according to a report in eTurboNews.
The new visa rule is in line with the new online visa scheme. With the new visa rule, visitors from 78 countries, including Britain, France, Germany, India and US, would be charged with a visa fee to enter Sri Lanka. The application for the entry visa could be done online and approval would take a day.
