Travel requirements to northeast India lifted

The Indian government has lifted the travel requirements for foreign nationals who wish to visit Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland. This decision is in line with the initiative to increase tourism to these northeast Indian states.

In the past, foreign tourists needed to pay US$50 to get a permit to enter the said states. Additionally, foreign tourists were only allowed to travel in groups of four over a limited number of days. Bhawan Rakesh Ranjan, resident commissioner, Manipur, was quoted in TTG Asia as having said that now that the permit system has been lifted, they expect to see many more tourists visit the area.
