The tourism department in Kolkata has now introduced a 100-man tourist police force.
The new tourist police force, made up of ex-defence personnel, will be deployed at Howrah station, Sealdah station, the airport, and Alipore Zoo. Raghavendra Singh, secretary, state tourism, was quoted in eTurboNews as having said that the tourist police would not have the power to penalise, but could always forward cases to the city or state police.
The tourism department has also put up special booths at tourist attraction places such as Kalighat temple, Victoria Memorial, Park Street, New Market and Sudder Street.
