Netizens in Taiwan Each Spend 465 U.S. dollars Online

Netizens in Taiwan spent an average of 13,864 New Taiwan dollars (about 465 U.S. dollars) each person shopping online this year, up from 329 U.S. dollars for last year, a survey shows.

Around 63.9 percent of Taiwan netizens made online purchases this year, five percent more than that in 2009, local media reported Wednesday, citing a survey carried out by local authorities.

A total of 16,008 people aged above 12 were interviewed in the survey from July to August.

Taiwan's netizens number 14.46 million, out of a population of around 23 million, according to the survey.

The survey also shows that 80.2 percent of Taiwan netizens browse online news daily, and 61.1 percent search for information about products before buying.

Further, 75.8 percent of Taiwan's netizens chat online, while 64.9 percent use social network services (SNS), among which MSN and Facebook are the favorites and used by 48.85 percent and 41.4 percent of netizens respectively.
