Int'l Bamboo & Silk Calligraphy Invitation Exhibition Kicks off in Changsha

The International Bamboo & Silk Calligraphy Invitation Exhibition themed on "Bamboo & Silk Writing Sparkles Dongting Lake" was unveiled on the afternoon of March 25 at Changsha Bamboo Slips Museum. 150 odd calligraphic works from over 20 countries and regions are to be displayed for 3 days.

As a main province in unearthing bamboo slips and silk manuscript, Hunan has proved its profound culture heritage with the discovery of Mawangdui silk manuscript and Zoumalou bamboo slips of Changsha Prefecture during Sun Quan's reign of Wu in the Three Kingdoms period (222-252 AD) as well as Liye bamboo slips of Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206BC). These abundant segments showed the original charm of ancient calligraphy and its natural unadorned smooth style. The exhibition gathers over 150 articles of experts, scholars and calligraphers from Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam and from China s mainland and Taiwan as well as Hong Kong.

The exhibition is co-organized by the Cultural Relics Press and the Bamboo Slips Museum in Changsha. Meanwhile, the 8th Symposium on China's Calligraphic History was held on the same morning to study the bamboo slips and silk instruments.
