On August 31, Prof. Hugh MaCann, Vice President of Engineering and Physics School of Manchester University, visited NCEPU and had a formal talk with Vice President Li Chengrong. The meeting was also attended by Liu Yongqian, Director of International Cooperation Department (ICD), Xu Lingling, Deputy Director of ICD, Xu Hong, President of Energy and Power Engineering School, Ai Xin, Vice President of Electrical and Electronic Engineering School, etc.

Prof. Hugh MaCann of Engineering and Physics School of Manchester University Visited NCEPU

At the beginning of the meeting, President Li expressed deep friendship between NCEPU and Manchester University. He said that a large number of professors from the two university had been research partners for a long time, which facilitated the friendship. President Li also gave a brief introduction of NCEPU from such aspects as campus, colleges, faculty and students. Prof. Hugh MaCann showed his great interest in the structure of NCEPU as Manchester University shared the same structure with NCEPU since its merging in 2004. At present, Manchester University ranked first in the number of students in Britain, with about 37,000 students while 30% being postgraduates. There are 60 teachers, 10 of whom are Chinese, in the Electrical Power and Electronic Engineering School. Then, Prof. Hugh MaCann introduced the academic achievements students from NCEPU had made in Manchester University, one quarter of whom obtained first-grade degree and most of whom obtained second-class degree. He praised those students for their academic performance and hoped that more students from NCEPU would pursue their study in Manchester University.

Director Liu Yongqian pointed out the satisfactory results of the co-cultivation of undergraduates in the field of electric power engineering, and proposed cooperation in graduate cultivation, i.e., students should study in NCEPU for the first academic year and in Manchester University for the next year, to promote the relationship between the two sides in this field. Meanwhile, he hoped for cooperation in fields like mechanical engineering, thermal power, computer science, business, and renewable recourses so as to achieve broader cooperation. Prof. Hugh MaCann expressed his pleasure in future cooperation with NCEPU and promised to carry out each program after returning to Britain. He hoped to see the fruits of the cooperation as soon as possible.

In the afternoon, Prof. Hugh MaCann delivered a speech on Manchester University to students of NCEPU, exchanged opinions and answered questions by students. After that, he was showed around Laboratory of Control and Computer Engineering School.
