Hosted by nstitute of Communication Studies and International Exchange and Cooperation Department of CUC, jointly conducted by the international academic journal "International Journal of the History of Sport" (IJHS) and Routledge International Publishing Group, the CUC-IJHS academic symposium of Higher Education in Media and Communication was held in CUC from September 6th to September 7th, 2010.
The symposiums theme was The Communication of Sports and the Rise of East Asia: Comparison in Communication Strategy and Media Strategy of Three Olympics in East Asia . World famous scholars in the fields of Olympic communication, transcultural communication and politics communication from eight countries held round-table meetings. They are from University of Athens, Greece;University of Western Sydney, Australia; University Stendhal of France; Inje University of Korea; University of Canterbury of New Zealand; School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London of England; The California State University of America; New York University; University of Florence of Italy and so on.
Vice President Ding Junjie delivered the opening speech, pointing out that "The International League of Higher Education in Media and Communication initiated and organized by CUC established a communication platform for the world s top universities in media and communication and aims to contribute to the carrying out of multilateral or bilateral cooperation and the internationalization of universities. The Comparative Study of Communication Impact Worldwide of Beijing Olympic Games Project organized by the Institute of Communication Studies of CUC and successfully cooperated with communication research teams of 13 world s top universities is a successful practice of International League of Higher Education in media and communication, and also an important chance to expand the academic influence of the League in international media field. This international symposium will help to push CUC and the communication research teams from 15 countries which had established cooperation relationships with CUC to take the International League of Higher Education in Media and Communication as a platform to carry out academic exchange and cooperation
President Assistant as well as Dean of Institute of Communication Studies Liu Liqun, Vice Dean Chen Weixing presented at the symposium and delivered welcome speeches on behalf of the institute. Opening ceremony of the international symposium was hosted by Zhang Yanqiu, Deputy Secretary of Party general branch of Institute of Communication Studies. Professor Roy Panagiotopoulou, Executive Chairman of the European Union Communication Education Association and Director of Department of Political Communication of University of Athens and Associate Professor Luo Qing, the executive leader of "Comparative Study of Communication Impact Worldwide" Project respectively read congratulatory letters from the International Olympic Committee and the launch issue chief editor of the IJHS.
The co-organizer of the international symposium is the world famous academic journal "International Journal of the History of Sport" (IJHS). IJHS has been published by Routledge Press for 30 years, recognized as the prestigious academic journal studying the History of Sport from a comprehensive view of political, cultural, social, educational, economic, artistic and esthetic. Each year it regularly invites research institutions who have unique achievements in the academic field that year jointly to organize international academic conferences. Based on the achievements of the "Comparative Study of Communication Impact Worldwide of Beijing Olympic Game" Project the international communication research team of CUC made since 2008, IJHS invited Institute of Communication Studies of CUC as the co-organizer to undertake this years international symposium "Communication of Sports and the Rise of East Asia ".
