NPU-coordinated 2010 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology Convenes in Xi an

From September 13 to 15 NPU-coordinated 2010 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology convened in Xi an. The objectives of the symposium are to provide an exchange platform for the aerospace scientists and engineers in the Asia-Pacific regions and to play an active role in developing China's aerospace technology.

Present at the opening ceremony were Chen Xiaozhu, chairman of NPU board of trustees, Vice President Wei Bingbo and the Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Hu Haiyan, president of Beijing University of Technology and vice chairman of China Institute of Aeronautical Science. The opening ceremony was chaired by Wu Song, secretary-general and standing council member of China Institute of Aeronautical Science.

In his keynote speech, Academician Hu Haiyan said that during the recent years the Asia-Pacific regions had made great progress in aerospace technology and that China Institute of Aeronautical Science hoped that the symposium would enhance the exchange and cooperation in the area of aerospace research.

"The participants here will share the state-of-the-art academic achievements of aerospace scholars and listen to their views and notions of aerospace developments. I believe that the symposium will become a useful platform for exchanging and jointly exploring cutting-edge technologies and will enhance our mutual understanding and cooperation." Chen Xiaozhu said in her keynote speech.

The symposium is attended by around 300 scholars from China, Korea, Japan, Singapore and others. It receives about 400 papers contributed by authors from China, Australia, Korea, Japan, Pakistan, Myanmar, Singapore, Taiwan etc. 305 are accepted and will be published, approximately 160 of which are divided into 30 themes and presented in group sessions. They are concerned with aircraft design, aerodynamics, wind tunnel test, air traffic control, materials and composite materials, spacecraft propulsion systems and so on.

The institutes of aeronautical science of China, Australia, Korea and Japan respectively give their presentations at the symposium. China presents its ARJ21 Project ; Australia Test and Evaluation of Aerospace Composite Materials Challenges and Opportunities ; Korea T-50 Supersonic Training Plane ; Japan Technical Developments of Supersonic Velocity by the Japanese Aerospace Research and Development Institutions . The progress in the Civilian Aircraft Project as presented by China Commercial Aircraft Corporation arouses the participants' interest.

The 2010 Asia-Pacific International Symposium on Aerospace Technology is jointly sponsored by the institutes of aeronautical science of China, Australia, Korea and Japan, run by China Institute of Aeronautical Science and coordinated by NPU.
