The agreement, signed in China's capital Beijing on Wednesday, covers cooperation in nine areas including trans-boundary infrastructure, modern services industry, manufacturing and sic-tech innovation, business environment, living environment, education and talent nurturing.
According to Professor Cha Risheng from the Dongguan Communist Party School, Hong Kong's flourishing finance, insurance and logistic industries will play a complementary role in Dongguan's economy. "Dongguan is an important manufacturing base in South China, but is apparently short of advanced experience in those areas," Professor Cha said.
With the agreement successfully signed, Hong Kong and Dongguan are also very likely to work together to promote industrial upgrading and technological innovation in Dongguan, according to Cha.
Dongguan is home to some 60 thousand Hong Kong-funded enterprises, but most of them are currently making small profits through OEM works for overseas purchasers, lacking the necessary ability to develop products with their own brand names.
In the past years, Dongguan Government has been striving to assist these enterprises to build their own brand names and to develop sic-tech innovation. With the joint effort of the two sides, it will be easier for Dongguan Government to reach its goal, Professor Cha said.
