Strengthen cooperation between cities; Promote the revitalization of old industrial bases

Yesterday afternoon, at the International Invention Center of Golden Pebble Beach, Xia Deren, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Liaoning Committee and secretary of the Dalian Party Committee, and Li Wancai, vice secretary of the Dalian Party Committee and mayor of Dalian, met with the participants for the 6th Mayoral Summit of the Four Northeastern Cities (4+4). Xia and Li expected that all the cities will strengthen their cooperation to promote the revitalization of old industrial bases in the Northeast. Mayor Cui Jie of Changchun, Acting Mayor Lin Duo of Harbin, Mayor Chen Haibo of Shenyang, Vice Mayor Dai Enbiao of Anshan, Executive Vice Mayor Zhang Guihai of Qiqihar, Cui Hengde, secretary-general of the China Association of Mayors; Li Jianhua, deputy secretary-general of the Jilin Municipal Government; Li Jianpu, assistant mayor of the Manzhouli Municipal Government; Lu Song, director of the Development Research Centre of Liaoning Province; Vice Mayor Sun Guangtian; Zhang Shikun, director of the Jinzhou New Area Administrative Committee and Xu Guochen, secretary-general of the Dalian Municipal Government, attended the meeting.
Xia Deren said that two trends in world economic development have now emerged: regional and global economic integration. Regional economic development lies in exchanges and cooperation between cities within the area. Since the system of summits for the mayors of the four cities of the Northeast began, cooperation and exchanges between the cities have been unprecedentedly enhanced, which has promoted the economic and social development of each city, in particular the development of the logistics industry, tourism, and equipment manufacturing. The revitalization of northeastern old industrial bases depends on the revitalization of each city; only with strengthened cooperation and more extensive exchanges can we achieve mutual benefit and a win-win situation.
Owing to the great support of other cities, Dalian has had better and more rapid economic and social development. Dalian s economic indicators in the first half of 2010 are satisfactory. Since the plan of opening and developing the Liaoning Coastal Economic Zone has been approved into national strategies, Dalian has promoted the construction of Three Centers, One Cluster at a higher starting point and to higher standards, exploring ways of opening and development with our own unique features. Since 2010, Dalian has taken a big step in institutional innovation and established Jinzhou New Area Cluster, Free Trade Zone Cluster and Puwan New Area Cluster, which will each develop according to their own characteristics and advantages, with their own typical industries.
Mayor Cui Jie of Changchun, on behalf of the mayors for the summit, expressed their thanks to the Dalian Party Committee and the Dalian Municipal Government. He said that the sound and sight of Dalian s rapid development is evident to us all. Dalian has been playing a decisive role both in the revitalization of old industrial bases in the Northeast and in the opening and development of the Liaoning Coastal Economic Zone. There is much advanced experience for us to learn and borrow from. We expect that we will have closer relationships and diversified cooperation with Dalian.
