On February 21, in Taipei, Mayor Li Wancai met with Chang Yung-Fa, chairman of the Evergreen Group of Taiwan, to have an in-depth talk about cooperation between the two sides on modern logistics. Evergreen Group is one of the 10 Taiwan major financial groups. Evergreen Marine Corp., one of its subsidiaries, is the world's largestshipping company with containerized-freight shipping routes all over the world. The other subsidiaries of the group are Evergreen International Corporation,EVA Air,Evergreen Air Services Corporation,Uni Air,Evergreen Air Cargo Services Corporation, Evergreen Aviation Technologies Corporation, etc.
At present, Evergreen Marine Corp. has opened its Dalian office, and Uni Air runsan aerial liner from Dalian to Taoyuan, Taipei. Li briefed the attendees on Dalian s economic and social development as well as on commercial cooperation between Dalian and Taiwan. He said that Dalian is an important port and a city of industry, commerce and tourism in Northern China, a major international shipping hub and an international logistics center as well.
During the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan, Dalian will seize the historic opportunities the revitalization of the old industrial base of the Northeast and the opening and development of Liaoning Coastal Economic Zone have brought about, with macro-urbanization as a vehicle, accelerate major infrastructure construction like ports, improve modern combined transportation, create an important international container trunk line of Northeast Asia, step up the international hub airport in Northeast Asia, and all-round improvement of the functions of a shipping center.
At the same time, Dalian will continue to structure the logistics center, building it into an intermodal transport center, a supply-chain management center and an international logistics hub. Li said that, with more and more Taiwan enterprises settling in Dalian, cooperation between the two sides in shipping and logistics has broad prospects.
He expects that Evergreen Group will seize the opportunity and give full play to their role of combined transport and modern logistics to strengthen cooperation with Dalian and to realize mutual benefit and double wins.
Chang said that Evergreen Group is optimistic about Dalian s development. They will increase investment and expand their business in Dalian based on their original results.
