Aug 23rd afternoon , the garden next to the art museum at Jingshan Street was inspected by Alan Smith, secretary-general of the international garden city contest, and Mdm. Sevilla, chairman of the current jury committee. The inspection delegation examined street sanitation, the developments of low carbon promotional activities and public cultural and sports activities. To promote green, low carbon lifestyle to the public, promotional booths, including promotional boards and banners were setup in the garden next to the art museum at Jingshan Street. Promotional materials were also distributed to residents passing by. Hundreds of people were at the activity site signing on the promotional boards, supporting Jingshan Street s call to establish a low carbon community, build a garden city . Various interesting cultural and sports activities were also organised for the public.
The selection of the international garden city was first started in 1997 by the International Federation of Park and Recreation Administration (IFPRA), a non-profit organisation, approved and supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). It is an international contest of the environmental management of cities and their communities, with the aim of enhancing their quality of life, and establishing a harmonious and developed society through the building of communities and cities that are suitable for living. Termed as the green Oscar , more and more countries around the world have in recent years, attached great importance to this activity due to its initiation of ecological balance, environmental protection, suitable living and sustained development as its main themes.
