The opening ceremony for the Confucius Institute at the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Optometry was held on Oct. 27, 2010. It is the second Confucius institute co-founded by WenzhouMedicalCollege at overseas universities.
President Qu Jia delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said: The co-establishment of the Confucius Institute at SUNY College of Optometry is another notable milestone in the history of our partnership He believes the institute will serve as a good platform for medical exchange of the two universities, a good place for people to learn about the Chinese language, culture and traditional Chinese medicine, and a bond ties the two great people and nation closer.
Hon. Peng Keyu, Consul-General of the Peoples Republic of China in New York, Dr. Mitch Leventhal, SUNY Vice Chancellor for Global Affairs, David Heath, president of SUNY College of Optometry and Xu Yanan, General Director of Chinese Department at UN also participated in the ceremony.
The Confucius Institute at SUNY College of Optometry provides programs and courses in Chinese Language and culture with special emphasis on the healthcare system in China.
