The delegation of East Carolina University of USA headed by Dr. Marilyn Sheerer, the managing vice president, visited SNNU on the morning of April 10. Zhang Jianxiang , the vice president of SNNU, on behalf of SNNU extended warm welcome to all the members of the delegation. Zhang said that the two universities have been cooperating for many years, especially concerning the cooperation of Comprehending World --- an internet course which has achieved great success. Zhang also praised East Carolina University as a model among abundant cooperative partners of SNNU and expressed sincere gratitude for their positive attitude towards constantly exploring new fields of cooperation with SNNU. Furthermore, Zhang generally introduced the basic conditions, development goal and running features of SNNU to the guests.
Dr. Sheerer, the vice president of East Carolina University, said that both universities should be more possible to become the partner of educational cooperation on the grounds that both have a lot in common such as the history and orientation of development --- both origin from normal universities, develop towards the orientation of comprehension and multi- discipline, and make great contributions for their countries respectively in training educators. She also expressed the hope that in the future both sides would often mutually visit and exchange so as to strengthen and enhance friendly relations of cooperation. That is to say, something on the paper becomes actions in reality.
Elmer Poe and Jia Zhihong, respectively the vice president and the assistant vice president of East Carolina University, paid a visit to SNNU in October last year and signed a memo of understanding and cooperation with SNNU. After further approaching the detailed regulations of implementation about the new cooperative project based on the former talks, both sides reached an agreement. Finally Zhang and Dr. Sheerer signed the letter of intent of educational exchanges and cooperation on behalf of respective university. Both sides agreed to take actions of cooperation from the following aspects.
Firstly, East Carolina University and the College of Network of SNNU work togerher to attempt to add new internet courses for exchange.
Secondly, a teacher of Chinese recommended by SNNU will teach for one year in East Carolina University, on the other hand, SNNU helps to introduce a companion Middle School for American teacher of Chinese culture in Middle School.
Thirdly, teachers and students from Archaeology Department of East Carolina University will carry out the archaeological practice for a short period of in the College of History Civilization of SNNU.
Fourthy, continue and improve the present Comprehending World --- the internet course. (trans.Tang Zhenna)
