NPU PhD student Ran Maohua from the School of Marine Technology received the Best Paper Prize at the IEEE Youth Conference on Information and Communications Technology (YC-ICT) held in the Graduate School at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing.
The conference accepted 138 papers out of over 400, and Ran s paper was the only one recommended to participate in the 2009 Microsoft Cup IEEE Students' Excellent Paper Contest held in the headquarters of the Microsoft Asian Academy in Beijing.
Organized by the Microsoft Asian Academy, the student paper contest is one of the global activities to celebrate the IEEE 125th anniversary. The contest called for student papers published in influential publications in the past two years and selected 23 papers to participate in the final contest in Beijing.The award-giving ceremony was held in Beijing, and Mr. Lewis M. Terman, chairman for IEEE 2008 awarded Ran the best paper prize.
Under the supervision of Professor Huang Jianguo in underwater acoustic communication, Ran s paper won the Best Paper Prize with breakthroughs and findings in his research areas.
