The Opening Ceremony of NLEEMHR (National Laboratory for Exploration of Endangered Medicine Herb Resources) was held in front of Gewu Building in SNNU, June 30th, 2008. Xiao Zhenghong, vice-president of SNU, chaired the Ceremony; Jiang Xiule, Secretary of the Party Committee, and President Fang Yu cut ribbon at the Opening Ceremony.
NLEEMHR is one of the ten newly established national laboratories in bio-technological areas in China. Based upon College of Life Sciences of SNNU, GAP Engineering Research Center in Shaanxi Province and Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education on Medicinal Plant Resource & Natural Drug Chemistry, NLEEMHR s research focus is to rescue the endangered medicinal herbs in northwest China. The research aims to solve the critical technological problems restricting the development of endangered medicinal herbs and the related industry, to establish the seed resources for endangered medicinal herbs in northwest China, to set up a standard, intensive seedling production system of large scale, to construct a technical platform and a model base for research of endangered wild medicinal resource cultivation, to carry out the separation and purification of effective substance from the endangered medicinal herbs, and to make creative achievements in natural drug screening and development.
It is considered that NLEEMHR should function to attract and cultivate qualified personnel, to optimize the allocation of resources as well as to promote the integrated production of technological achievements in the endangered medicinal herbs and its related industry. The National Laboratory will serve as a means to protect the endangered medicinal herb resources and the eco-environment, to solve the conflict between the lack of medicine supply and its increasing market demand, and to realize a sustainable usage of traditional Chinese medicine resource and a rapid development of its industry. trans.
