On October 18th 2010, the celebration for Huo Songlin s 70- year teaching and 90th birthday was grandly held in Chongwo Building on Yanta campus in Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU). Over 240 people were at present, including leaders from different universities all over the country, the presidents of many prestigious Colleges of Chinese Literature (CCL), famous scholars, Hu Songlin s disciples, and the representatives of teachers and students from the CCL in SNNU. It was hosted by Jiang Xiule, Secretary of the Party Committee of SNNU.
The celebration began with presenting Mr. Huo Songlin flowers and his wife with flowers by students representatives from the CCL. Li Bingwu, the curator of Research Institute of Culture and History in Shaanxi Province, read the letter to Mr. Huo written by Ma Kai, the State Councilor and General Secretary of State Council.
Fang Yu, president of SNNU, delivered a gracious speech for Mr. Huo s 90th birthday. He spoke highly of Mr. Huo and hoped that students learned from Mr. Huo s pioneering and innovative spirit and his precise professional dedication. Xiao Zhenghong, the vice president, read the document to set up Huo Songlin Classical Literature Prize at SNNU.
All the congratulatory letters, telegrams and greeting speeches highly praised Mr. Huo s great contributions to academic research and cultural transmission, development and boom and complimented his lofty sentiments for dedicating all his intelligence and painstaking efforts to our motherland and people.
Mr. Huo, at his 90 years, made an impromptu speech with affection, expressing his thanks to the leaders, teachers and friends. He held that he had confidence in approaching or even achieving our expectant goal.
Jiang Xiule, in his conclusion, pointed out that Mr. Huo s charism was the valuable treasure of SNNU and that the celebration was a chance to promote academic cause of SNNU to a higher stage.
