The Beijing Pavilion on the Shanghai World Expo Site was completed on Thursday 1 April.
The mechanical control and multimedia integration system designed by the Dongguan-HUST Manufacturing Engineering Research Institute DG Institute has proved to be the highlight of the Beijing pavilion. Officials, guests and journalists have witnessed the transformation of the pavilion, the visual enjoyment derived from multimedia integration technology.
With the help of 80 LED screens controlled by mechanical arms, the Beijing pavilion is transformed into several of Beijing's landmarks within minutes, including the Temple of Heaven, the National Grand Theatre, the Bird's Nest Stadium and the Water Cube. Accompanied by movie and music, the screen creates great sensation.
The demonstration system designed by DG Institute combines mechanical control with multimedia integration technology, shifting the traditional static LED screen demonstration and creating the only pavilion that enjoys appearances-shifting among the Expo pavilions.
The DG Institute has made miracles relating technology innovation and construction implementation in the process of the pavilion completion.
As regards technology innovation, the design of lightweight structure enables the 80 mechanical arms to operate on the steel construction. The distributive control technology makes it possible for the mechanical arms to move swiftly from various angles and to diverse destinations, achieving the overall transformation of the main structure. In addition, the multimedia integration technology blessed with full independent intellectual property guarantees real time processing of super widescreen and mass flow video data, ensuring the video's cutting and splicing on the 80 LED screens.
As for the construction implementation, DG Institute has showcased their prompt response and fighting spirit. It only took about one month for the Institute from signing the agreement to completing the design and to manufacturing and assembling thousands of structural parts. The installation on the expo site took only three weeks, a week ahead of the schedule.
Many exhibitors who are aware of the technique difficulties and the construction difficulties have deemed it impossible to complete the task on schedule, whereas the DG Institute has accomplished and made the Beijing pavilion one of the earliest to complete its construction.
The University leaders and leaders in Dongguan city have given a lot of support throughout the construction. During the spring festival, Mr. Leng Xiaoming, executive vice mayor of Dongguan city together with Mr. Shao Xinyu, HUST vice president and director of DG Institute visited the expo site and conveyed greetings to the employees.
The success has caused a stir. Currently the DG Institute has signed agreement with Expo Life and Sunshine Pavilion, Argentina Pavilion, Angola Pavilion and African Pavilion for the cooperation of multimedia construction.
