Two Students Discovered Major Scientific Results

Write: Jay [2011-05-20]

Postgraduates of the School of Life Science discovered two major scientific results, with their research results published in the international peer reviewed Journal Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications and STROKE respectively.

The research team headed by Prof Qing K Wang identified a novel A130V mutation in SCN3B which is associated with atrial fibrillation. This is the first time for a postgraduate under the guidance of his supervisor to discover a new gene responsible for atrial fibrillation.

In addition, another research headed by Prof Wang and Prof Tu Xin also made progress in finding that single nucleotide polymorphism rs11206510 is associated with LDL-C levels and early-onset CAD in the Chinese Han population. The paper was published by STROKE.
