Hubei Daily cultural page headlined significant progress in AIDS research made by our alumnus Wu Xueling on August 13 and 17, respectively.

On August 13, the latest top global academic journal Science, published 2 reports by the American National Institute of Health NIH announcing the successful isolation of 2 natural monoclonal antibodies from the HIV carriers' blood , which could neutralize about 90% of the HIV strain.

This is by far the strongest broad-spectrum antibody isolated worldwide. Among the researchers who discovered this potent antibody, Wu Xueling, the first author, is known as our alumnus. She graduated from Tongji Medical College former Tongji Medical University in 1994, and pursued her doctoral degree in the United States afterwards. She has been engaged in HIV antibodies research for years and began to work in NIH since 2006.

Previously, the online edition of the Science journal has already released these 2 reports on July 8. Wu Xueling, and Zhou Tongqing, the first authors for another report, are all Chinese scientists who graduated from Hubei then pursued study in U.S.A.. There are 24 and 18 signed authors for these 2 reports respectively; as the first authors, Wu and Zhou showed their prominent devotion in the research.
