When the phrases like high definition , three-dimensional projection , special glasses come to your eyes, you may immediately come up with the 3D movies, right? But what it refers to here is not a movie, but the Decision Theater in the School of Public administration at HUST.
The effectiveness demonstration of Decision Theater
The "Electronic Decision Theater", which was guided by the Ministry of Education and jointly developed by HUST and Wuhan Visde Company, is a set of "virtual visual decision support platform", mainly used to assist the government in formulating public policy. Recently, this device has been in service and become one of the world's most advanced and the only "Decision Theater" in China.
Special glasses applied to present 3D effect
Entering the Decision Theater, you will be impressed by the 240-degree-bend large screen in front of you. Wearing the special glasses, audience can catch the sight of every corner in a city vividly presented in a stereoscopical way, just like what can be seen in 3D movies.
"It is designed to make policy-makers 'reside' in a city before it has been built. When virtually experiencing the urban life in the future, the policy-makers will be able to check the reasonableness of the public facilities." The person in charge of the Decision Theater introduced.
Relying on eight high-performance projection equipments and a large-angle seamless arc screen, Decision Theater provides a three-dimensional modeling of virtual urban landscape to make policy makers actually see decision-making problems as well as reviewing the result of their public policies, which will effectively prevent economic loss caused due to poor decisions.
Adopting a series of measures, such as advanced visual technologies, relying on a variety of information and combining with simulation prediction, Decision Theater can generate multiple options for decision makers. If the design of some parts of the city is unreasonable, it can also issue false alarms and propose amendments.

In addition, Decision Theater uses grid technology and cloud technologies, which provide powerful information storage, information processing and arithmetic capability to meet the computing needs of the complex decision-making model, such as the intellectual city, the crisis management. The video conferencing systems equipped in the Decision Theater can make deciders beyond thousands of miles away participate in both the interaction and joint decision-making.
Decision Theater is reported to absorb the technologies from world's first Decision Theater, which is in Arizona State University, and experience development and improvement in four years. Compared with the device in Arizona State University, its visual effect is more realistic, its image processing is more powerful, and its computing is faster.
Currently, the School of Public Administration, based on the Decision Theater, start several research projects related to the water diversion project, wisdom Huazishan City, and Liangzihu water pollution control projects.
