From January 4th to 9th a delegation from SDU, led by Vice-president Fan Liming, visited Rice University and Stony Brook University, SUNY to study social resource and finance management and to explore more intercollegiate cooperation opportunities. During the visit, the delegation also met with SDU alumni working in Houston, New York and Washington, D.C. Dr. David Leebron, President of Rice University met the delegation. He expressed his willingness to enhance communication and cooperation between the two universities. Mr. Wei Qingli, Consul from the Consulate-General of the P.R.C. in Houston, and Mark Davis, Assistant President of Rice University, were present at the meeting. During the visit, Prof. Fan also met with the representatives of the university including Carol Quillen, Kathy Collins, Darrow Zeidenstein, and Ms. Ann Peterson. She gave a brief introduction of SDU and exchanged ideas concerning social resource development, fund-raising, university administration, financial management, and the alumni network with the representatives. Agreements were achieved in fields such as intercollegiate academic communication and cooperation, students exchange, and science and research cooperation. The delegation paid a visit to the Confucius Institute at Stony Brook University where Prof. Fan delivered a speech on Higher Education Development of China and presented the history, ideas, strategy and characteristics of SDU. Discussions with the staff in charge of international cooperation and communication and fund-raising helped the delegation with an insightful understanding of the social resource management, fund-raising and the alumni network of Stony Brook University. Through the talks the delegation and Stony Brook University achieved preliminary intent on promoting intercollegiate academic communication and cooperation, students exchange and science and research cooperation. The delegation was received by Prof. Brent Lindquist, Deputy Dean of Stony Brook University. The delegation also met with SDU alumni in Houston,New York and Washington, D.C. Impressed by the development of SDU, especially by the great achievement achieved in 10 years since the merger of the three universities and also by the blueprint of SDU, the alumni expressed their delight and willingness to contribute to the development of SDU. The Deputy Consul General of the P.R.C. in New York Zhou Limin met with the delegation consisting of representatives from the Accounting Office, International Office, Domestic Cooperation Office and Alumni Office of SDU.
