On July 19th, SDU held a donation ceremony for Dr. Wang Chen, an alumnus of SDU. The ceremony was hosted by Wang Qilong, Senior Vice President. President Xu Xianming, Vice-president Fan Liming and Wang Chen s daughter Wang Mengdi presented the ceremony. Dr. Wang Chen donated 30 million Yuan to SDU for starting up the School of Medical MBA. In the ceremony, President Xu and Wang Chen signed a donation agreement and an agreement to establish the School of Medical MBA. President Xu conferred a certificate of SDU visiting professorship, acertificate of SDU board membership upon Wang Chen and gave him acommemorative plaque and a badge of honorary student to Wang Mengdi. Assistant president, Wang Jianmin and Jia Lei also attended the ceremony. Wang Chen delivered a short speech during the ceremony. He said that the donation was due to his strong affection for SDU and his daughter s support. He also expressed that he will continue to contribute to SDU and he hoped that more alumni would make donations to SDU. Wang Mengdi who immigrated to theNetherlands with her father when she was seven and who is now nineteen years old and is studying in the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists was the first person to support Wang Chen s decision to make the donation. She said her father s decision is noble and it is well worth itto donate money to SDU. President Xu highly praised Wang Chen s noble decision. He said that the signing ceremony was simple but of great significance which fulfilled both the university s tradition and Wang Chen s wish. He said that the ceremony was a symbol of confidence and support of alumni to SDU. He also expressed his appreciation to Wang Mengdi because she at such a young age encouraged her father s noble course. Wang Chen has been engaged in overseas medical high-tech investment administration for many years. He was invited to the ten-year anniversary celebration of Hong Kong s return by Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Donald Tsang Yam-Kuen as an excellent overseas investor. He is creative and insightful not only in the area of medical business but also in the cultivation of medical administrative talents. 22 million of Wang Chen s donation will be used as Special Funds for SDU Medical MBA Education to establish the School of Medical MBA. Seven million will be used to build the Qilu School onthe Baotu Spring Campus and another one million will be used to initiate the Developmental Funds for Pediatrics of SDU to promote the development of pediatrics of Qi Lu Hospital. SDU is preparing for the establishment of the School of Medical MBA. The school s strategic goal is to build one of the best academic institutions and international exchange centers in this field.
