French CEA delegation, led by High Commissioner Catherine Cesarsky and Alain Tournyol, Nuclear Counselor of French Embassy in China, visited USTC in the afternoon, Nov 25. Deputy President Chen Chusheng met the delegation.
President Chen introduced the university features, research spotlight, student training etc and give answers to the delegation s focus of the selection and training mode of the Special Class for the Gifted Young.
Dr. Catherine Cesarsky thanked for the good arrangement. Two parts had a talk with cooperation on the student training, academic degree conferring and research field of nanometer, astrophysics and life science.
The delegation had paid a visit to the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory, School of Nuclear Science and Technology and Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at Microscale (HNLPSM) before the meeting.
CEA had cooperated with USTC for years. The cooperation memorandum was sign between CEA and HNLPSM in 2008. The seminar had hold 2 times since then.
The Commissariat l' nergie Atomique (English: Atomic and Alternative Energies Commission) or CEA, is a French public establishment related to industrial and commercial activities whose mission is to develop all applications of nuclear power, both civilian and military. CEA is headed by a board headed by the general administrator, advised by the high-commissioner for atomic energy. Its yearly budget amounts to 3.3 billion Euros and its permanent staff is over 15,000 persons.
CEA was created in 1945. Fr d ric Joliot-Curie had been appointed to the high commissioner.
