Sponsored by the National Art Museum of China and the Artists Association, a retrospective and donation exhibition entitled Pure and noble spirits is unveiled to showcase a total of more than 200 masterpieces by Liao Bingxiong. Among them, a total of 65 cartoons and calligraphic works have been donated to the National Art Museum of China. The exhibits cover a wide range and present a high level.
Liao Bingxiong (1915-2006) is an accomplished artist in the 20th century. As a cartoonist and humanitarian fighter, he started to publish comic books since 1932. His works reflect the fight against tyranny and violence and show the conscience and courage to pursue the freedom, the democracy and the equality in an ironic way.
He created a large number of works deeply involved with social realities which recorded different historical phases in the 20th century. In all his lifetime, faced with the life by grievous cartoons, the artist criticized the false, the evil and the ugly and praised the true, the kind and the beautiful.
His masterpieces are artistic symbols and cultural signs of the democratic and legal society since the reform and opening up.
Liao Bingxiong received the top prize for the art in China by China Federation of Literature and Art and the Chinese Artists Association in 2003. Some famous Chinese and overseas media have made special coverage on his devotion to the art and his achievements. Such facts prove that he received extensive recognition and high premium from the artistic circle.
The exhibition is hoped to reflect the artistic achievements of Liao Bingxiong in a comprehensive way and cover a wide range of categories from the sketches and the stage design to the landscape paintings and the calligraphic works.
He founded Liao Bingxiong Humane Special Found with his savings and devoted himself to the charity, such as helping the students from poor families, introducing citizenship education to schools and sponsoring college students to research at the grassroots level.
The exhibition will open at Hall 1, 7 and 9 since Mar. 12 until Mar. 19.
