CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE OF SHANXI UNIV. HELD ACTIVITIES IN YEREVAN STATE LINGUISTIC UNIVERSITY AFTER VALERY BRYUSOV, ARMENIA

During the Mid-Autumn Festival, a Chinese gourmet festival was held by the Confucius Institute of Shanxi University in Saryan Plaza in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. Present were Pan Yong on behalf of the Chinese embassy, Mr. and Mrs. Henrry Grigoryan, the president of Asia-China Friendship Association, Ms. Evgenina, the Chairperson of Armenian ZARD Cultural Association, Vice-president and Prof. Balayan Gabriel, Prof. Avakyan from Yerevan State Linguistic University after Valery Bryusov, Armenia students and over 200 ethnic Chinese.

On September 30, 2010, the teachers of the Confucius Institute and the Chinese ambassador in Armenia, were invited to the National Day reception ceremony. The teachers of the Confucius Institute carried extensive and friendly talks with Armenian officers and were cordially welcomed by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan. He and ambassador Tian Changchun approved and praised highly the contributions made by Shanxi University s Confucius Institute in Armenia in aspects of the friendly Sino-Armenia relationship, cultural exchanges and the propagation of the Chinese language and culture, in Armenia

During the Armenian National Day, our Confucius School held a photographic exhibition named Experiencing China. Participating were, the president and the vice-president of Yerevan State Linguistic University after Valery Bryusov, together with many students from elementary schools, high schools and universities.

On the 23rd of October the Confucius Institute of Shanxi University in Armenia successfully held an exhibition of Chinese language and culture in the Normal College in Gyumri, the second largest city in Armenia. This was very well acclaimed and warmly welcomed by local students, scholars and residents.

On the evening of October the 31st, the Armenian Center for Eastern Culture sponsored a charity performance, East-Armenia, in aid of orphanages in Armenia. Traditional Chinese singing and dancing, Tai Chi Chuan, Taiji push-hands exercise, sword-play, broadsword-play, cudgel-play, etc. were performed by both the student body and faculty members, among which an Armenian students martial art show, headed by Prof. Mao Chunming from Shanxi University, received several rounds of applause.

In November, the Confucius Institute of Shanxi Univ. in Armenia succeeded in holding a recitation competition of Chinese poetry. Nearly 50 Armenian students from universities, high schools and elementary schools took part in the contest, which was broadcasted on Armenian National TV.
