On Mar. 6, SCUT's first alumni enterprises job fair was held at the East Sports Field. Over 120 alumni enterprises and companies took part in the event, providing nearly 1,000 job vacancies.

In spite of the cold rain, the event has attracted more than 3,000 graduates-to-be to try their luck. As reported by some security guards, many students and alumni enterprises entered the Field as early as 6:00 a.m. An undergraduate student surnamed CHEN from School of Software said that he reached the stall after 8 o'clock, much earlier than the time when the job fair was to begin.

Since he had carefully read the enterprise list in advance, CHEN already had his favorite posts in mind. He was confident to find a job at a salary of around 3,500 yuan. It is reported that both students and alumni enterprises spoke positively of the job fair, and that they hoped more platforms of this sort could be provided by the University.

It is said that the global financial crisis has caused a sharp decline in the overall demand for labor. Given that over 330,000 students will graduate in Guangdong this year, together with those from other provinces and the suspended employment students in previous years, it is estimated that there are more than 500,000 graduates hunting for an occupation in Guangdong province.

Therefore, SCUT graduates are facing with great pressure in employment. In order to create more opportunities for the students, WANG Yingjun, Chairman of the University Affairs Committee and LI Yuanyuan, President of SCUT, appealed many times for the alumni enterprises to lend a helping hand either by recruiting new members or by other ways.

SCUT Student Employment Guidance Center and Alumni Office jointly organized the job fair, and they has been working on it ever since the end of last semester. Despite the unclear economic situation, the event was still supported by a vast number of alumni. It is said that the number of participants was estimated to be under 80 at first, but unexpectedly it exceeded 100 at last. ZHANG Weixiong, CEO of Guangzhou First Bus Co. Ltd. and president of SCUT EMBA Association, said: "It is a duty for SCUT alumni to provide more employment opportunities for graduates of SCUT."
