On December 24, a contract of metro car for Beijing Subway Line 5 was signed in Beijing People s Great Hall. CNR President Cui Dianguo presented the ceremony. Chairman of CNR Changchun Railway Vehicle Co., Ltd. Dong Xiaofeng and Chairman of Beijing Rail Transit Construction Management Co., Ltd. Yang Bin signed the contract.
CNR Changchun Co. will supply 192 metros for Line 5. The total contract value is 1.1 billion Yuan. Line 5 will be the third metro line to be built in Beijing. Priority is being given to this line because Beijing will host the Olympic Games in 2008. The line will be 27.6km long with 22 stations. It will run from Taipingzhuangbei in the northern district of Changping south through the city centre to Songjiazhuang in the Fengtai district.
It will interchange with the existing east-west Line 1 and circular Line 2 and Beijing station. It will be put into use in 2006 before 2008 Olympic Games The newtrains will be formed of 3 motor cars and 3 trailers. With light stainless steel-bodied without painting, the six-car train-set features in automatic train operation system of inspection, driveless and signal control, as well as passenger information and video system and low noise.
Basing on good cooperation with Beijing Subway in last 30 years, CNR Changchun Co. will try best to devote quality products for Beijing. The first train-set will be delivery in March 2006.
