Last year, Baosteel Steel Pipe Business Unit developed a total of 8 new products. Green product sales reached 1.04 million tons, up 20% over 2009. The ratio of green products reached 43%, fulfilling the annual green manufacturing plan.
Last year, Steel Pipe Business Unit focused on recycling of resources, extending life span and green products substitution in green production, and for the first time considered green product sales targets as environmental management KPI focus.
Production sales and research team further taps the potential in production of products which have high-strength, high toughness, high resistance to extrusion and anti-corrosion. Last year, 31/2 ", 5", 51/2" high torsion resistant, sulfur resistant drill pipe achieved bulk supply. 27/8" high torsion resistant, 31/2" high torsion resistant, 5" high torsion resistant , sulfur resistant drill pipe attracted volume contracts.
In addition to traditional users, premium joint products also successfully attracted users in Yanchang and Liaohe Oilfields, and a number of new specifications were developed, with products extending to medium and large calibers. For the first time Sinopec Southwest Branch ordered two oilwell nickel base alloy tubing and casing from Baosteel and the product was approved by customers.
Steel Pipe Business Unit also works on product substitution and production cost reduction. Last year, Baosteel HIC resistant pipeline was approved by users and achieved bulk supply, which marked that Baosteel had successfully replaced high-end seamless pipe products with HFW welded pipe. The Business Unit has successfully developed MTS stern tube which is applied in BMW, Mercedes, Audi and other high-end models.
This largely reduces the manufacturing costs of these high-end models and promotes the process of localization of high-end transmission shaft. In addition, it moderately reduces the C and Mn content and increases the proportion of ultra-low carbon steel conductivity rate, reduces copper thickness, pollution and copper consumption.
Steel Pipe Business Unit also enlarges the recycling of waste and old products. It developes a new type of environmental friendly recyclable protection ring, which improves the comprehensive competitiveness of Baosteel products. The annual export of oil tubing and casing with high-strength environmental friendly plastic protection ring to Australia is about 15000 tons.
Premium joint BGT1/BGC is Baosteel's patented product and it has been widely used in domestic oil fields. To solve the repair problem of damaged threads, Baosteel actively promotes the construction of premium joint authorized service site. After authorizing for Heshun Corporation in Tianjin, Weisheng Corporation in Shenzhen, it also authorized Sichuan Oilfield and Tarim Oilfield last year, providing customers with the nearest service and reducing costs.
In addition, Steel Pipe Business Unit also actively promotes the recycling of substandard die steel and low phosphorus scrap steel with good results achieved.
