The symposium was held at the Lecturing Hall of the Bio-Tech Building of DICP on 15th and 16th of May. More than ten scholars from the States, Canada, Japan, South Korea and England were invited to attend the symposium and give lectures. Prof. YANG Ling was the chairman of the meeting, and Prof. LI Can, Vice-Director of DICP, addressed in the opening session to express welcome to the participants on behalf of DICP.
Effectiveness, safety and ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination) are the three main characteristics of any drugs. In the past, the R&D of new drugs have been focused mainly on the screening and optimizing of the effectiveness of the drugs. As a result, during the later period of the R&D, it would be found that problems existed in the safety and ADME of the target drugs, and this is one of the reasons for the low success rates and high investments in the R&D processes.
In recent decades, many medicine manufacturers have started paying great attention on the screening of drugs by aiming at all the three characteristics during the early stage of the R&D.
During the symposium, exchanges were carried out among the participants on topics of new technologies and methods of ADME, toxicity and DMPK(drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics) of drugs.
