Hunan: Tobacco Industry Introduces Special Brands for the 12th Five-Year Plan

Xu Shousheng, governor of Hunan Province, calls on the province's tobacco units to invigorate the tobacco industry through science & technology and develop high-quality tobacco leaves with distinctive features.

The Working Conference on Tobacco Leaves in Hunan was convened in Changsha on December 22.

During the period of the Eleventh Five-Year Plan (2006-2010), the tax benefit of Hunan's tobacco industry has exceeded 159.7 billion yuan, with the tax revenue reaching over 126.7 billion yuan. The exploration scale of the tobacco leaves has ranked second in China.

According to the conference, Hunan will implement the strategy of "grand brands, large bases, super standards, and high level" in the period of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan (2011-2015). By 2015, the province will plant 1.3 million mu (about 86,666.67 hectares) of flue-cured tobacco, support key tobacco leaves production counties with the output exceeding 100,000 dan (5 million kilos) each, and establish about 60 high-standard brand-oriented tobacco leaves bases.

During the period of the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the province will attach greater importance to the development of tobacco leaves with distinctive features, especially the exploration of the strong-flavored tobacco leaves in south Hunan and the mountain area tobacco leaves in west Hunan.

Hunan Governor Xu Shousheng delivered a speech at the conference and Assistant Governor Yuan Jianyao presided over the conference.
