The 2011 New Year Celebration of the Minority Fellowship Associations in Changsha was held at Hunan Grand Theatre on the afternoon of December 19.
Over 1,600 people of all ethnic groups working in Changsha gathered for the celebration. The party was also attended by Li Weiwei, director of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, and Liu Liwei, vice governor of Hunan Province.
Director Li pointed out that the year of 2011 is the first year of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" period (2011-2015), which will bring in new opportunities for development to ethnic minority areas in Hunan province. Last July, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council convened a working conference on west China development, when Wuling Mountainous Area and other poverty-stricken areas were specified as priorities for poverty alleviation.
Ethnic minority areas included in the central committee's West China Development Program should seize this favorable opportunity and make efforts to arouse the enthusiasm of the carders and the mass, thus realizing a sound and rapid economic and social development. All the minority fellowship associations shall uphold the spirit of making concerted efforts to achieve common development and prosperity, continue to maintain the close contacts with ethnic groups and ethnic minority areas, and strive for consolidating and developing ethnic unity, social harmony and stability of the whole province.
