On the morning of September 17, Dr. Sandra, the dean of the School of Computer and Creative Industry of Edinburgh Napier University, led a delegation to visit our university. Vice presidents Wang Libin and Yin Hong met all the guests. The heads of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Department of Research, the School of Information, the School of Modern Art and other related departments attended the meeting. The two sides had full exchange in regards to the topic of the meeting.
At 11:40 A.M. the guests from Napier University visited the School of Modern Art. There they listened to Dean Peng s introduction and watched short films made by the students. They also visited some of the studios in the school. The guests showed approval in regards to the school s educational philosophy and teaching method. They mentioned that Napier University also attached great importance to the exchange between Chinese and Western cultures as well as the combination of traditional workmanship and modern technology. National cultural resources abound in Yunnan; Edinburgh also has its own unique cultural resources. This provides an objective condition for the cooperation between the two universities. In a candid, friendly and pleasant atmosphere, the two sides reached agreements on the following subjects: short-term exchange, exchange student programs, mutual recognition of the credit of foreign students, co-training for graduates, and program development.
At 3:00 P.M., Napier University discussed academic exchange with the School of Information. The conference was hosted by Dean Yu Jiankun. Deputy Dean Wu Xiaosong, a senior visiting scholar from Napier University, Deputy Dean Zeng Zhiyong, and the department chairmen all attended the conference. Dean Yu first briefly introduced information about the school. Then he expounded the school s research and achievements in the areas of intelligent information, computer applications and management information systems. Dr. Sandra introduced the situation of the School of Computer and Creative Industry in Napier University. He gave an especially detailed description of the school s development plans for the future.
After learning of each other s situations, both schools wished to cooperate, and reached the following agreements: the two sides should continue to promote a 3+2 model for graduate study, a 3+1 model for undergraduate study, programs for exchange students, recognition of credit and project development. In the end, the two sides also had an in-depth discussion in regards to tuition, visas and language barriers, hoping to create a satisfactory program for student training. Napier University and our university have conducted cooperation and exchanges for many years. A large number of our school leaders and teachers have visited Napier University.
