On January 20 2011, University President Professor Chen Xin met on campus with a six-member delegation led by Mr. Chander Parkash, Deputy Consul General of India in Guangzhou.
Professor Chen Xin briefed the guests on the overall situation of GDUT, the university s characteristics, and the university s international exchange and cooperation. He pointed out that India had the world s leading software and information industry. The economic development of Guangdong Province needed more and more high-level personnel with international outlook. Therefore, the two sides had good potential for cooperation. In the future, GDUT would strengthen cooperation with Indian universities and enterprises in personnel training and scientific research.
Mr. Chander Parkash said that the Indian government attached great importance to the cooperation with Guangdong Province, especially with Guangzhou. They regarded Guangzhou as Indian manufacturing and research base in southern China. Indian companies in Guangdong needed a large number of young people who knew Chinese culture in order to get rapid development in the Province. Educational exchange was an important way to promote mutual understanding and cooperation. Mr. Chander Parkash said that Consulate General of India in Guangzhou would strongly support the exchange and cooperation between GDUT and Indian universities and enterprises. He was pleased to learn that GDUT had established cooperation with VIT University which was one of India's most influential universities. He hoped that GDUT could support the construction of Indian international institutes in China.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed the collaboration potentials on joint training programs.
Later, the guests visited Shahe Campus, accompanied by Ms. Fanglingling, Director of Foreign Affairs Office and Mr. Huang Shun, Director of Administration Center of Shahe Campus.
