Inauguration Ceremony of Academicians Square Held in SCAU

On Nov 1, one of the 100^th Anniversary Celebration Activity Series ---- the Inauguration Ceremony of the Academicians Square was held at the newly named square beside Zhaoyang Lake. The square was built to commemorate eight academicians that have studied or worked in South China Agricultural University.

Unveiling of the statues

Professor Liang Guangwen expressed his happiness saying that the setting up of the square fulfilled the wishes of himself and many others as students of the academicians, and standing there was like being with their teachers again.

President Chen Xiaoyang delivered a speech sending congratulations to the inauguration and warm greetings to the family of the academicians. He pointed out that the academicians represent the refined tradition and academic spirit of SCAU, and to install the statues was to inherit their noble values and promote them among younger generations.

The statues of Academicians Ding Ying, Zhao Shanhuan, Pang Xiongfei, Pu Zhelong, Chen Huanyong, Lu Yonggen, Zheng Ruyong and Huang Yaoxiang were then unveiled. The university leadership, Professor Liang Mingcheng, sculptor of the statues and former President of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, personnel from different colleges, and family members of the academicians were present.
