Professor Shen Gan was Included into the 500 Influential Experts in China

Professor Shen Gan, a textile expert and retired teacher of ZSTU has been placed the first 50 on the list of the book Five Hundred Influential Experts in China the Experts who have made remarkable contributions to PRC in Sixty Years since Its Founding. Also included in this book edited by Chinese and Foreign Eminent People and Culture Research Center of China were well-known experts like Yuan Longping and Zhong Nanshan.

Born in August, 1941, Shen Gan was a silk design major graduating from SuzhouUniversity. Transferred to Zhejiang Institute of Silk Textiles in 1979, he established the major of textile design, made teaching plans, developed teaching materials and constructed laboratories and did other important jobs. Professor Shen who spent 43 years in textile design and related teaching and research work was one of the main founders of majors concerning textile design in ZSTU.

Professor Shen Gan participated into the development of new textile products, the R & D of textile CAD design system, the upgrading of traditional silk weaving techniques and the research in the application of digital technology into textile design. He took charge of and participated into the following national research projects the CAD Design of Dobby Cloth , a key project in the Seventh Five-year Plan; Silk Garment Lining and Computer Processing Skills of Printed Return Samples , two key projects in the Eighth Five-year Plan. Shen Gan also undertook several provincial projects. He took charge of dozens of transversal projects including Development of Textile Souvenirs , The Protection and Inheritance of Sichuan Brocade , The R&D of Silk Products and The R&D of Covering Fabrics for Indoor Furniture , which exerted positive social influences and obtained several Intellectual Property Rights. He Published books like Silk Product Design, A Collection of Weave Structure Drawings, Striped and Checked Fabrics Design and participated in the compilation of Encyclopedia of China. He published nearly a hundred papers including Ready to Reinvigorate Silk Industry , Improve Design Skills for More Economic Returns , Emphasis on Environmental-friendliness and Multi-functions in the Design of Household Textiles , Thoughts on the Protection and Development of Chinese Tapestry , Figured Satin the Pearl of Chinese Silk and The Application of Digital Technology in the Development of Textile Products .
