On the morning of Oct 22, Mr. Chen Wenxing, ZSTU s Vice-President met delegation from U.S. Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU). The visiting guests included Tomas Ball, Dean of the Department of Industrial Engineering Technology and Linda Sun, Director of SPSU International Program Office. At the meeting, persons concerned from ZSTU s such units as the Faculty of Materials & Textiles,the Division of Science & Technology, and the Division of International Exchange & Cooperation were present.
Chen extended his warm welcome to the visiting guests and then briefed on the guests the basic information of ZSTU and the development of its apparel discipline. Then, Thomas Ball and Linda Sun provided brief introduction of SPSU, its schools and disciplines, its strong disciplines and international exchange programs under construction.
The two sides then held in-depth discussions on the issues concerning the establishment of the International Apparel and Textile Engineering and ManagementResearchCenter. Chen expressed that, as two time-honored and distinctive disciplines, ZSTU s textile and apparel disciplines have undertaken various research projects at Ministerial, Provincial and National level and accordingly have attained envious achievements. Chen added that the fact that Zhejiang Province has long been boasting its flourishing Textile and Apparel industries endows the two above-mentioned disciplines with ideal potentials for further development, which consolidates ZSTU s confidence in participating in the establishment of the Center. Thomas Ball expressed that, SPSU s Textile and Apparel have always enjoyed the good reputation in the Southeast of the U.S. and they have maintained close connection with local textile and garment enterprises. Ball hoped that with joint efforts, the R&DCenter will be developed into an extensive platform for academic exchange, industry exchange and products exhibition and serves as a base for students practical training. Besides, the two sides discussed issues concerning exchange students, programs for undergraduate and graduate students through joint efforts, and forms of future cooperation.
After the meeting, the delegation was shown around the Exhibition Center of ZSTU s School of Fashion Design & Engineering and National Key Laboratory of the Education t Ministry.
